This summer, 14 MAC grads and 4 MAC staff members will be heading to Siguatepeque, Honduras, for their humanitarian build. Unlike the previous years, we will be travelling with Habitat For Humanity through their Global Village program. Our trip will be from July 1st - 11th, 2014.
Honduras is one of the poorest and least developed countries in Latin America, with nearly two-thirds of Hondurans living in poverty. Before 1998, Honduras had shown moderate economic growth as a result of government reforms. Nevertheless, after losing US$3 billion due to Hurricane Mitch, Honduras’ economy is still in the process of recovery. The agriculture sector, responsible for most exports, was the worst affected. Mitch also caused more than 6,000 deaths and left 8,085 missing and 75,000 homeless.
By the end of the trip, The Mac Humanitarian Project will be providing three needy families with a home. This trip will change the lives of the families and the experience will change the lives of the students forever.
This summer's trip will cost each student approximately $2200. Please help this outstanding group of teens become active agents of change. Any donations in excess of $20 will be issued a charitable tax receipt from Habitat For Humanity. We thank you in advance for your interest in our project.
